A meet cute between a cleaning lady and a teacher – both in a similar state of mental exhaustion – introduces the viewer to the shocking world of the lowest classes of Korean society, extreme sex and the disappearing of interpersonal communication. Lee Seung-won tells of mentally broken people connected by their insanity and tragic past. The non-linear narration and shot composition, bringing to mind the best works of neo-realists, require patience and a lot of focus, but the finale allows us to reevaluate and take another look at the story, this time from a completely different angle. Lee Seung-won’s uncompromising debut is a very intense experience, in which you have to immerse yourself in order to truly appreciate it.
